never fails to crack me up

Jeff and I have been sick all weekend.  Luckily I don't have work this week, so today I am having a super lazy day with Liam.  Well, I am having a super lazy day today while Liam jumps all around the house like a crazy monkey.  I decided I should put a movie on, so I picked Iron Man 2 because I figured maybe Liam would like it too.  And of course he did.  When Tony Stark put on the Iron Man suit Liam looked at me, smiled, and started clapping.  I kid you not.  He never fails to crack me up.

I recommend...

Any female who is a mom or wants to be a mom should see What to Expect When You're Expecting.  I know its been in theaters for a while now, but I only saw it yesterday.  It is spot on on the whole pregnancy thing, from great experiences to awful.  Of course, my own experience was most similar to Elizabeth Bank's character (I'll give you a hint, hers was not the super awesome fun time pregnancy).  I laughed so hard in a few scenes that I actually snorted a few times.  I kid you not.  And that hasn't happened for a long time.  Nice husbands or boyfriends might see the movie with you (and possibly enjoy it), but mine is not one of them.  Oh well.

you know you're a nerd when...

You watch a movie that John Williams composed the music of to celebrate his birthday.

We picked Jurassic Park.

why do I feel so guilty?

I caved.  Jeff was totally in the mood to watch Santa Claus the movie.  He always makes fun of me because I've never seen it.  So I agreed.  I have now officially watched a Christmas movie this season.  Before Thanksgiving.  So I'm feeling like a crazy person.  And now I really want to decorate my house all Christmas-y and break out the Christmas music.  And bake gingerbread.  Well, I will probably bake regardless... Off to the kitchen I go!

getting nervous

I put a random netflix movie on today and it happened to be You AgainYou Again.
For anyone who hasn't seen it, it contains an engagement, Kristen Bell, and revisiting (mostly) bad high school experiences.  I'm thinking this was a bad choice to watch, because I'm going to my 10th high school reunion this weekend.  I know, right?  When did I get that old?!  I wasn't tormented in high school or anything, but I was by no means popular.  That mixed with the usual post high school weight gain makes me want to show up looking completely amazing in an impossible "I didn't even try" way.  I think I'm screwed.  Basically I'm just glad I'm going with Kristin, cause she makes everything fun.  But I do think I will definitely need those two wine vouchers included in the ticket...

mom ears

I have super mom ears.  I totally hear Liam every time he cries.  Unfortunately I also hear Liam cry when he is actually silent but in another room and I think he might possibly be crying (hearing phantom cries is super annoying!).  The worst though is to watch a movie where a baby is in many scenes while your baby is (hopefully) asleep in his crib on the other side of the house.  Any time I hear a baby (on screen, from Liam's room, or in my head) I first think it must be Liam and my first reaction is to run into his room and make him happy.  Although I usually come to my senses half a second later before I have time to get off the couch it gets soo distracting and I miss random bits of movie.  Then I have to ask Jeff to clarify things and he gets all eye-rolly.  Anyway, it is kind of happening right now as we watch Willow.  I figured maybe if I'm going to be distracted anyway, I should blog about it.

eclectic

You know your taste in movies is totally random when you have Batman Begins, A Beautiful Mind, and Beavis & Butthead Do America all next to each other.

yeah, I know its still early

I know that Halloween is still a ways off, but since we have Liam now, we want to incorporate him into our costumes.  Jeff keeps coming up with ideas for the two of them that leave me out.  My favorites of his are Marty McFly and Doc Brown from Back to the Future and Short Round and Indiana Jones.  Those ideas are cute and all, but then I'm left out.  Sad!  So today I suggested while watching the movie that Jeff and I be Ariel and Eric, and Liam can be Sebastian.  Wouldn't he make a cute little crab?

I wish it wasn't true

The last few days my feet and ankles have swollen massively (thanks pregnancy hormones!), and when I told Jeff how weird it now feels to point and flex my feet he pointed out that my feet and ankles look as if they belong to Aunt Marge from Harry Potter.  He then asked me if I wanted him to contact the Ministry of Magic for me to help deflate me.  Ha ha.  Unfortunately I think his comparison of me to Marge isn't too far off track.  Eew.  On the positive side, at least my hands, though swollen slightly aren't as bad as Marge's.  I can still comfortably wear all my rings.  Yay!

subconscious thoughts

You know you must be hungry/ thinking about food when you realize you are simultaneously

A) watching Ratatouille
B) perusing  the Food Network website for new recipes
C) reading a non-fiction book about a woman who goes through the Le Cordon Bleu program in Paris.  It's called "The Sharper Your Knife, the Less You Cry".  I highly recommend it.

The very unfortunate bit about all this is that our kitchen is pretty much bare, so I couldn't make anything fun and yummy.  Sad day.  I really wasn't about to go grocery shopping at nine at night.

movies

Movies in my opinion are kind of sucking lately.  Especially since I heard the "The Jungle Cruise" is coming out next year.  I mean, come on Disney, you really shouldn't be so desperate that each attraction gets its own film, right?  Ooh, ok.  Now I'm thinking there should be some kind of poll or something.  You know, for the like 2 people that actually read this blog.  What do you think the most obnoxious/ lame Disney movie based on an attraction would be?  My personal vote is for Small World.  Let me know what you think.

In other movie news, I have decided that I want to see Beastly.  I know it looks like a stupid teeny bopper movie, but Neil Patrick Harris is in it, and I'm kind of in love with him, even though we can never be (mostly because he's gay and we both already have significant others), but hey, a girl can dream.

And randomly back to Disney.  Do you think "Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln" would be a documentary or a historical fiction movie?  Or would they try to make it more popular with a younger demographic and make it set in space or something?  Yup, that's it.  I'm totally going to write a screenplay called "Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln in Space!"  Yeah, I can see it winning Oscars already.

like the movie

Is it pathetic that when I see Luna climbing all over the piano and sniffing it that I really want to lift the cover off the keys and have her play the piano like the little kitty in The Aristocats?  It would be so cute!  Wow, I really need Liam to get here sooner because I apparently need massive doses of cuteness to sustain me, and I guess I'm not getting enough.  Which is saying something, given the cuteness of my cat.

And in a completely unrelated note, have I mentioned that I'm never going to need to buy baby clothes, ever?  I just got more hand me downs today from the cousins, and I think even factoring in lots of changes due to spit-up  Liam will have time to wear each outfit like once, maybe?  His closet in insane!

Umm, Luna just decided that the empty pizza box I just set down next to me on the floor would be a great place to curl up and take a nap.  What a spaz...

movie night

Since I'm still sick (ugh) when Jeff asked me what movie I wanted to watch tonight, I got in a funky mood and told him "something funny that's not supposed to be funny."
And because he's awesome, Jeff picked the 1985 classic Commando.  Which fit the bill perfectly.  I swear, Arnold has some of the cheesiest lines ever, the clothes are all 80s awful, the music was sax-a-rific, and it co-stars adorable juvenile Alyssa Milano.  How could anyone not love a cheese-tacular movie like it?

movies with mom

I really hope I don't end up like my mom when I'm older in this one thing: she gets SOOOO confused watching movies.  Last night my parents went with Jeff and me to see the new Harry Potter.  Several times she leaned over to me and said, "Now, which one is Voldemort?"  Yeah, she actually said that.  My response was something along the lines of "Well, he's the creepy looking bald  one without a nose that everyone backs away from when he gets too close, cause he scares the crap of of them all."  She would nod in understanding, then ask the same question thirty minutes later.

feeling old

I feel so old today.  I checked facebook, and all my friends were talking about how they saw the midnight showing of Harry Potter.  I used to go to midnight showings all the time, but last night Jeff and I went to bed at like 9:30, and we had to fight to stay up that late (granted, we both had work really early yesterday, but still).  Hopefully were are just going through a lazy period in addition to the pregnancy, and next year we'll be awake enough to stay up late again.

brilliant

Hey!  I have a brilliant idea!  Let's take a REALLY long movie that just barely got out of theaters, say James Cameron's Avatar.  Then let's put it BACK in theaters, and add 3D and nine additional minutes.  Seriously, what the hell?!  How does that make sense?

How To Train Your Dragon

I don't know if you've seen the film How To Train Your Dragon, but the main dragon (Toothless) largely resembles a combination of Stitch and a domestic cat.  Luna also noticed this resemblance and decided she likes this movie.  After watching the beginning of it on my lap she moved to get a closer view.  After a while I looked down and she was sitting about three inches away from the tv, just looking straight up and watching.  I love cats...

hide and seek (cat style)

Cats remind me of an evil/ sneaky version of Doug from Disney's Up.  No, don't get me wrong, I love cats (I mean, who wouldn't look at these and be jeslous of not owning anything as cute?), but sometimes Luna can look kinda...well, sneaky and evil.  She loves playing (but mostly hiding) under newspapers, and it's really only a matter of time before she jumps out and tries to attack your ankle with the attitude of an ADHD 2 year old on a sugar high (Tova, back me up on this).

Yeah, she looks all sweet and innocent here...

ready to pounce

now she's just grumpy at me for taking her picture and thus ruining her hiding place.

blogging

Writing a random blog posting while watching "Julie & Julia" and listening to Julie talk about blogging is just kinda funny.  Yeah, I'm a dork.  It's also making me hungry.  I'm trying to be healthy, so here's a healthy recipe.  A cookie recipe that is healthy and yummy.  who'd have thought?

Honey Oatmeal-Raisin Cookies
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1/4 cup canola oil
1/2 cup honey
1 large egg
1/4 cup smooth unsalted almond butter (you can also substitute regular unsalted butter)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup nonfat dry milk
1 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoonn ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 3/4 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup raisins (optional- Jeff hates raisins)

Preheat the oven to 350.  Mist 2 baking sheets with cooking spray.  Beat the butter, canola oil, honey, egg, almond butter and vanilla extract in a large bowl with a mixer until combined.
In another bowl, whisk the dry milk, flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt.  Add the flour mixture to the butter mixture and stir to combine.  Stir in the oats and raisins.
Scoop tablespoonfuls of batter about 2 inches apart onto the prepared baking sheets.  Bake until golden, about 12 minutes.

These are the easiest cookies on the planet to make, but they taste so yummy, especially if you make them kinda huge like I do (it makes them more cake-like and chewy and moist), but because I make them bigger I end up with less cookies, and that simply won't do.  Therefore, I always make at least a double batch.  I just tell myself that the cookies are healthy and it makes the guilt go away.
